The beach is open to the public for swimming from noon to 6 PM daily until August 23. There is no fee.
The beach will be closing for the 2015 season on Sunday, August 23 at 6 pm.
There is no swimming when a certified Town of Chatham Lifeguard is not on duty. Please call the park office at 518-392-0337 for any questions.
NOTICE: Fishing is allowed at the Crellin Park pond, however, we ask that you do NOT fish for the Triploid Grass Carp that are in the pond. According to the NYS DEC website, “It is prohibited to possess grass carp without a permit. Anglers who may by ochance catch a grass carp should immediately return it to the water unharmed.” The carp are there to eat the weeds that grow in the pond. Please also note: Fishing is also NOT allowed from the beach area of the pond. Please use the grassy areas around the pond that are not near the beach. This is to cut down on incidences of hooks and fishing line getting caught in areas where swimming is allowed when the beach is open. Crellin Park Summer Recreation Program 2016 season.
The Town of Chatham Summer Recreation Program operates for six weeks at Crellin Community Park Monday through Friday. The program will begin on July 6, 2016 and continues until August 12, 2016. The program operates from 9 AM to 3 PM. Registration for the summer program is in person and will take place the second week in June, 2016. Parents must bring proof of immunization records and proof of residency.
Registrations will NOT be accepted without these records.
Certified lifeguards teach American Red Cross Swim lessons from 10 am to 11 am and from 11 am to 12 noon, Monday through Friday within two three-week sessions. Children of all ages are encouraged to sign up, as six levels of swim instruction are offered. Following each 3-week session, participants will be given either a certificate of completion or an ARC certification card that graduates the participant to the next swim level.
The Morning and Afternoon Enrichment program begins at 9 AM and ends at 3 PM Monday through Friday. Children are split into various age groups: 4 to 5 yrs, 6 to 7 yrs, 8 to 9 yrs and ten and up. Each group is supervised by trained camp counselors in various activities at the park. Arts and crafts, recreational games, swimming, sports, tennis lessons, a theater arts program with PS 21 and lots of other fun activities will be offered, including programs at the Children’s Garden in the Chatham Community Garden. Partial or full scholarships are offered to children who live within the Town of Chatham based on economic hardship.
The Children’s Gardening program takes place on Monday/Wednesday and Fridays for children 9 to 13 and on Tuesdays and Thursdays for children 5 to 8 years old from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Chatham Community Garden located in Crellin Park. The program, taught by garden educator, Cait Denny, is a six-week “hands-on” program that encourages healthy eating habits, while learning to grow and harvest vegetables, herbs and flowers.
